In recent months we have had a growing concern with the volume of non compliance online retailers which are selling on a variety of platforms including the likes of Amazon and Ebay. A recent study identified that the majority of free riders were those selling smaller electrical items such are hair appliances, light bulbs, smart devices and laptops. Out of the total number of these products sold it is estimated that up to 80% of these items are not compliant in line with the UKs WEEE regulations. Larger items such as large domestic appliances had a much lower rate of non compliance- estimated to be under 10%.

Its no secret that through technological advances, online distance selling methods make it easier for certain producers and retailers to “free ride” and not register their products in the manner that the WEEE regulations require. An additional issue is that due to different online market places available, there can be confusion with product ownerships. As a result, the WEEE regulations are extremely difficult to apply and exercise.

We have a solution which:

  1. Negates the need for any regulative action and change being considered for online selling platforms by DEFRA and its agencies EA, SEPA, NRW & NIEA.
  2. Ensures that all EEE products being placed on the UK Marketplace are Compliant with Producer Responsibility regarding Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment (WEEE)

If anyone would be interested to hear more, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss this.
